    I suppose that some people find comfort in the idea that God isn’t “working” today. The idea keeps Him predictable and thus makes us feel better about our own ability to be in control.

    i agree with the explanation here of bibliolatry. It is “spot on.” But i don’t agree that makes practicing fundamentalists practical athieists. When i was in the coC, i absolutely believed God was active in my life, from my fatherless childhood to my years in ministry. i’m certain that deep connection to God as the source has been my salvation since i lost my other connections in congregational worship.
    What i especially appreciate here is the framing of the debate. Absolutes do push people to extremes, of belief or disbelief.
