I am a community college speech instructor in the suburbs of Houston. I’m much more interested in interpersonal communication than in public speaking, although I’ve delivered a lot of speeches over the course of my life.
In addition to that, I’m a former minister and a husband. I’m also a father of three–girl, boy, girl–whose concerns and questions force me to apply the abstract theological questions I love to their experience of daily life. This blog is where I try to capture the things that roll into my head before they roll back out.
My doctoral thesis was about intergenerational Christian spiritual formation, and I love to help adults and children draw closer to God together. If you’re interested in a workshop on spiritual formation in the church and home, please contact me! If you’d like someone to come fill in one Sunday while your preacher is on vacation, I’d be happy to do that, too. For that matter, if you are looking for a new minister and think we might be compatible, drop me a line. I’m on an extended hiatus from ministry, but I’d jump back in for the right congregation.

Saw a reply of yours on MetaFilter to a person asking about what scripture says about cutting contact with a parent and how you can still honor them through it. I wanted to thank you for your response as it greatly helped me and I will be using your points to help me work through the guilt I have of not having contact with my parents. Thanks again. I wasn’t sure where to put this comment.

Feel free to drop me an email if you ever want to work through that stuff a little more with someone else. Recovering from and handling parental dysfunction is a long journey. I’m not sure it ever ends.

Hello, I voted for you, so please do not let me down now. Under any circumstances, please do not sign, and put into law, the bill 35. This law was put into play by the cab companies, this law was generated by greed. They want all the people living here in this great state, and Tourist to be forced to use them with no alternative. I am a disabled vet, from the Vietnam era, I drive for Uber, to subsidize my income, my question is why do the cab companies care about surging prices from Uber when they charge 2 1/2 times more to go from point A to point B, This is America, give our people a choice, do not force a way of live on someone, because of someone else’s greed. We have tourist coming here on a tight budget whom depend on Uber and Lyft. If we leave, our tourist industry could very well take a large decline, and we do no want to dicuuss the 1000’s that would be unemployed, like myself. Like the phrase I grew up on “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”
